-
How long are therapy sessions and how many will I need?
When first beginning therapy, it is typically recommended for sessions to occur once a week. All sessions are approximately 53-60 minutes long. The amount of sessions needed to see progress will depend on the nature of your concerns and circumstances. Your therapist will actively assess your progress and make adjustments and suggestions as you move forward in your therapeutic journey.

My child needs help but refuses to engage in therapy. What should I do?
It is common for children and teens to be resistant towards therapy. If you experience this, we recommend scheduling a parent session to discuss these concerns. Your therapist can help you develop a plan for this situation and assist you in formulating effective language when talking to your child or teen about therapy. Even if your child or teen continues to refuse ongoing therapy, your therapist can still educate and help you learn ways to help your child or teen.
-
Who should be at the first session?
If you are an adult seeking services for yourself, then the only person who needs to be at the first session is you. If you are seeking therapy for your child, it will be helpful to have you at the first session to collect important background information. The therapist will typically ask you to step out halfway through the session so they can talk to your child one-on-one and start to build a strong relationship. If the therapist did not get everything they needed from you during the first session, they will typically follow up with a phone call to obtain that additional information.
-
What should I expect at the first session?
Before you are able to have your first session, you will need to complete all the intake documentation located in your confidential HIPPA compliant client portal, which will be sent to you after you make your first appointment. It is very important that your intake paperwork is reviewed carefully before signing, so that you are aware of what to expect throughout the therapeutic process. The questionnaires you complete will also provide your therapist will valuable information about what you are looking to work on, which will then inform the questions your therapist will ask during the first session. The first session will be approximately 53-60 minutes long and mostly comprise of relationship building and getting to know your story. Your therapist will also be able to answer any questions that you have and discuss your concerns. If you would like for your therapist to talk to others in order to gather more information, you will have the opportunity to sign an authorization form allowing your therapist to call those individuals.

Do you accept insurance?
Yes! Currently, all of our providers are in-network for Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield and its affiliates. Unfortunately, we do not currently accept Horizon NJ Health/Family Care. Before starting any services, we always recommend that you contact your insurance company to ask what services are covered. We can guide you on questions to ask your insurance company so that there are no surprises.
